Our Story

Sarah and Teddy first crossed paths by chance in the summer of 2018 at Teddy’s childhood beach house in Nags Head. Their first date was at Nags Head Pier, where they shared biscuits and gravy with a view of the ocean. The Outer Banks has always held a special place in both their hearts — Sarah growing up on the OBX, and Teddy visiting countless times each year. They’re convinced their paths must have crossed more than once as children.

Their love grew slowly but surely. Teddy spent weekends in Wilmington visiting Sarah at UNCW, while Sarah made the trip to Greenville where Teddy studied at ECU. By New Year’s Eve of 2019, it was clear something special was happening, even if Sarah still told her family that night Teddy was “just a good friend.”

On June 23, 2019, exactly one year after the night they first met in Nags Head, they made their relationship official. College graduations looked a little different due to the pandemic, but the challenges of that season only brought them closer together. With the OBX bridges shut down, they finally experienced what it was like to spend more than just a few days together, strengthening their bond in ways they’ll always cherish.

In 2020, Sarah moved to Savannah, GA to begin her career, while Teddy started his in Raleigh, NC. Though distance once again defined their days, they filled weekends with travel and adventure, making the most of every moment. In September 2021, their worlds became one when they moved in together in Raleigh. In February 2023, they welcomed their greatest joy (besides each other), their rescue pup, Brie.

Together, they’ve filled their days with the things they love: travelling, thrifting for hidden treasures, tending to their growing collection of plants, hosting friends, teaming up for trivia nights, and celebrating life’s milestones with family and friends across the country.

After five and a half years Teddy popped the question. Though the weather spoiled his plan for a romantic evening at “Moonlight in the Garden,” he instead pulled Sarah into a dance in their living room, just like so many times before. As he spun her out, she turned back to find him down on one knee — and without hesitation, she said “yes.”
